That being said, I am curious if my new timepiece is plausibly all original. This brings me to my main question: how closely correlated are Hamilton B serial numbers to production dates?

How off-base would it be to assume 68 Bs were finished each day with consecutive serial numbers? I am not trying to thread a timeline needle and build a dubious case for the originality of my timepiece; I am mostly curious to learn about how movements traveled through the production and assembly process. I hope some of you folks can educate me! Jan 12, 8, 5, New York State Country. The first thing I would say is post some photos of your watch.

Thanks for the welcome! I've attached a few photos. Also, I'm aware the case's bow has been replaced. Reactions: Leigh Callaway , viclip , Jskirk and 1 other person. Robert Sweet Registered User. There do not seem to be surviving production records in this time frame, for some earlier b movements, there are limited production ledgers My 'gut' tells me the xxx case may be just a bit 'early' for the C movement, but i simply cannot prove it I'll relate this reported combination from now deceased friend Julian Smith who had a repair shop in Warrenton NC.

Format is movement serial, case serial , case model, date of record, and 'comments' The best control method of analyzing these watches has seemed to be relating known 'boxed' examples; the label on the box which contains the movement serial number, the case serial number, the style of dial as well as case model type.

This was 'factory' information that survived, but even this is in limited supply I'll present this I've retained quite a few images of such box labels I was unable to find a boxed example in the C range.

Here is one just a bit later with the Model 11 case.. Click for a larger version It's the stuff you find on old light switches or old electrical sockets. It's a very hard and brittle plastic. It does not easily burn and is very resistant to chemicals. The melamine resin dials do usually have cracks and hairlines after a few decades.

The enamel dials may get hairlines too but generally not as big ones as the melamine dials. I have seen some cases where people have removed the original melamine and completely re-painted the dial.

It looks nice but it is not original and Hamilton did not use such "paint on brass" dials for the b.
