She noted that he hadn't interviewed any past girlfriends of Whittemore's about prior physical altercations until after a psychiatric expert retained by the prosecution had submitted his report. Also, Houghtalen told her that it wasn't until April that Whittemore had admitted to him that he and Alexandra Kogut had had physical skirmishes in the past.

However, Houghtalen said, that did not change his conclusions about Whittemore's mental state on the night of the killing. Houghtalen's testimony will continue Wednesday, and additional defense and rebuttal witnesses will be called. The case could go to jurors late this week.
